Description: Major General Herbert J. Gavin. Caption reads, "...a command pilot with more than 5,800 flying hours accrued in 70 different types of aircraft, will take over as the commander of the Sacramento Air Logistics Center at McClellan Air Force Base March 1st. He will replace Maj. Gen. George W. McLaughlin who will retire Feb. 28. Airmen at the base today observed the 46th anniversary of the birth of Martin Luther King with a silent march and a memorial service."
