Shades of L.A. is an archive of photographs representing the contemporary and historic diversity of families in Los Angeles. Images were chosen from family albums and include daily life, social organizations, work, personal and holiday celebrations, and migration and immigration activities. Many groups joined Alpha 66 including a group of Afghan people who opposed the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan. Alpha 66 is an anti-communist organization working for the liberation of Cuba. The group was formed by Cuban exiles. Alpha signifies the beginning and the group started with 66 people.
