Description
Photograph of a Hopi Indian mother with her baby on her back getting water from an olla outside an adobe dwelling, ca.1900. Her dark hair is worn in tight braids at the sides of her head. She wears a plaid blanket with a fringe about her shoulders over her knee-length dress. The baby is slung in the blanket on her back. The woman is sitting on a wooden box holding a pottery ladle in her right hand over a large pottery jar or water jug. A window is in the wall directly over her head. Several household items such as a jug and a pole sit under or near a sheltered area in the background at right.
