Description
Edna O’Brien discusses her book, “In the Forest.” She begins by explaining that the novel is based on the real events of the triple homicide that shocked Ireland in 1994. She explains how a man abducted a young woman, her son, and a priest and later murdered them in the nearby forest. In the novel she explores the mind of the killer, Michen O’Kane and the events of his past that might have drove him to homicide. O’Brien discusses how much of the novel is drawn from the actual events and how much she constructed. Also in this interview, O’Brien addresses criticism that her writing is too dark and portrays Ireland in a less than desirable light.
