Description
Photograph of an exterior view of the A.B. Avis residence on East Holt Avenue in Pomona, ca.1910. The stately, two-story Avis residence appears to be made of adobe, the texture of its facade alluding to spackle, although the combination of the two columns that flank the entrance steps with the terracotta-tiled roof makes the overall architectural style seem more reminiscent of Chinese pagodas. A striped awning hangs from the front of the house and between the two columns, providing shade on the porch. To the left, a large tree can be seen, while the unpaved road can be seen just in front of the sidewalk in the foreground. A second, more modest home can be seen to the right in the background, cutting its silhouette against the shape of the mountain in the distance.
