Description
This circa 1945 photograph shows the mannequin-filled windows of Zukor's Women's Furnishings at 726 K Street. The 3,200 square-foot store was opened in September 1930 after a 35,000 dollar renovation, making the Sacramento Zukor’s one of the modern venues in the nationwide chain. One notable feature was the wooden valances and blackened glass in the store’s front windows. A few years after this photograph was taken, Zukor’s moved to a new, even more modern location at 812 K Street. Built by Sacramento contractors, the 500,000 dollar store was fit with bronze doors and over 500 fluorescent and incandescent lights. Above Zukor’s rests the dental clinic of native-Canadian Dr. Samuel Orwitz. To the left of the photograph is the Gensler-Lee Jewelry Company at 730 K Street.
