Photographs was edited for publication purposes. The California Women of the Golden West presented a pageant on May 20, 1932, in which they impersonated famous women of the state's history. Mrs. Morris J. Thompson portrays Ygnacia Bonaficio, "Sherman's Rose." The story goes that Gen. Sherman loved her and left her a rose when he went to war, and that she planted it and it grew, at Monterey. It is said she was madly in love with him and died of a broken heart as she never heard from him again.
