Northridge Receiving Hospital, later renamed Northridge Hospital, then Northridge Hospital Medical Center, was founded by Dr. Frederick Gruneck in 1955. Photograph caption dated April 23, 1964 reads, "New Careers -- Fifteen Valley women who lost their jobs because of automation are in training at Northridge Hospital and Valley College to become licensed vocational nurses. They are, from left, Sylvia McCall, Shirley Kleiser, Ethel Pistone, Nancy Vendetti, Alice Ivino, instructor, Lydia Duncan, Emily Escobedo, Lillie Shapro, Christine Greenberg, Diane Frank, Helen Tokarski, Merrilyn Kruss, Ethel Mohr, Marian Zetterlund, Stella Liese and Mrs. Theresa Atcherley, hospital's director of nursing.
