Photograph of an Indian religious shrine, on Old Zuni Mesa, ca.1898. Several wooden totems jut from dirt floor. The totem on the right, with a stick protruding from the center, shows hints of human features such as a long chin, flat nose and eyes. The pencil-shaped totem on the left has a hole in its center. Several more totems are bunched between the left and right totems. Dozens more lay flat on the dirt ground. The landscape consists of shrubs and bushes.
