Description
Atlanta, GA.: A black weatherproof covering reads 'This light turned out by LBJ' as segregationist Lester Maddox prepared to open a 'new cafeteria' Sept. 26th. Lester closed the 'PickRick' restaurant under court pressure to serve Negroes and hopes his new establishment will avoid the 1964 Civil Rights Act by dealing only incidentally with inter-state commerce. On Sept. 28th, Negroes tried to get service in the new restaurant but were pushed away from owner Maddox.
