Description
Filice & Perrelli Canning Co., Inc., Gilroy, California, Santa Clara Valley. Gernarro Felice was born in Italy and settled in Gilroy upon his arrival in California in 1906. He went to work for the Bisceglia Brothers. By 1914 he and his father had purchased six acres near Gilroy and erected their first cannery. In this venture they were associated with John Perrilli who had arrived here with his family in 1907. Mr. Perrilli was also born in Italy, in 1895. He joined with Mr. Felice in canning business, working under the firm name of Fellice & Perrilli Canning Company. The first year, 1914, they packed 17,000 cases of tomatoes. In 1916 they incorporated and bought four acres in Gilroy at Lewis and Railroad Streets. They built a plant adjoining the Southern Pacific Tracks. The plant was continually enlarged to accomodate increased volume, and in 1922 they handled over 350,000 cases of fruits and vegetables.
