Description
Photograph of a lithograph of a drawing of three Los Angeles buildings, including Hellman & Bro., Abel Stearns, and Don Lorenzo, 1870. By Kuchel and Dresel. Detail from a lithograph (photograph CHS-5308) depicting 21 historic Los Angeles buildings. Lithograph is ca.1857.
Depicted at top is Hellman & Brothers books, stationery, and cigar store. A man and woman in the dirt street gesture toward the store. Another man walks by at right, while a third man leans against a post in front of the store. A few customers are visible inside. A sign above the store reads, "Hellman & Bro. Books, Stationary, and Cigars".
Depicted at center is one-story adobe home belonging to Abel Stearns, North Main Street, at the site of Baker Block. Note the lamp post said to be the first in Los Angeles. Eight people and a horse-drawn carriage are also present in front of the building.
Depicted at bottom is the dwelling of Don Lorenzo. A woman can be seen greeting a man at the open door of the one-story house as three pedestrians walk by. A picket fence lines the sidewalk.
