Description
Photograph caption dated June 21, 1984 reads, "Featuring the consequences of covering an Olympics marathon in the movie capital without a tracking shot, ABC ordered up a super-duper mobile unit to fill the bill. It carries two gyro-mounted cameras, a hand-held model, seven monitors, a crew of 10 and driver. Custom-built by a Colorado firm, the vehicle is emission-free when driven by its two 42-horsepower electric motors, but has a Chrysler piston gasoline engine to carry it up and down the Los Angeles hills. As the vehicle silently tracks the marathoners on their 26-mile course, a helicopter will hover above to relay the signals to a studio. The cost was not given, but the batteries alone weigh 2,500 pounds."
