Description
Image of the monument to the 19th Regimental Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. The monument is a large block cut at an angle. Carved onto the face of the angle is knapsack with a bedroll, above that a horn. At the base of the monument is written: The 19th Reg't Mass Vol. Inf't'y / of the / 32d Brigade - 2nd Division - 2nd Army Corps / Stood Here / on the afternoon of July 3rd 1863. The photograph has been affixed to a card with the photographer's signature and "Gettysburg, Pa." printed in gold lettering at the bottom.
One of the numerous monuments erected on the Gettysburg battlefield to honor the soldiers who fought and died in this decisive battle.

Provenance
Lindsey M. Gould, a Civil War veteran, acquired the photographs in the 1880s as a keepsake of his war experience. At Mr. Gould’s death around 1919, the entire collection went to his close friend Herbert W. Singleton. The collection remained in the Singleton family until May 2001 when the Huntington Library acquired it through a gift and purchase arrangement.
