Buildings on both sides of a street lead into the distance; electric poles are at intervals down each side; on the left is a building with a clock tower and a printed sign below; horse-drawn carriages can be seen on both sides and a trolley is coming toward the front of the photograph on the right
Walter Hepting was born in Sacramento (father was from Switzerland, mother from Germany). Worked for the State Treasurer's Office. Was amateur historian, collected old photographs and images of Sacramento.
"Left side of street or north-side, showing Wachhorst, '315 J st sign of the tower clock' and Old California State National Bank... Right side of street or south-side, Old Thompson & Diggs store, or 'Colmubus Buggy & Carriage Shop'. A.A.Van Voorhies and Phinney Co.,"
