Description
This photograph of the I Street Bridge, originally known as the Southern Pacific Bridge, was taken in 1911, just one year prior to the 1,000,000 dollar structure's official opening. The view comes from the West Sacramento side of the Sacramento River, looking north. The first train to cross the bridge on Monday, April 29, 1912, was the No. 19, a line that ran between San Francisco and points throughout the Sacramento Valley. Notice the boat launching rails shown on the left side of the photograph.
