Description
Guimaraes was born in Brazil but emigrated to America in 1977. He taught dance in the Bay Area. He introduced his native dance, Frevo, which has its origins in the Capoeira martial art form. He performed locally in carnival festivals and toured Europe and South America. He performed briefly with choreographer Jamie Miller, contributing his own choreographic blend of Afro-Brazilian and jazz dance forms. Guimares died in 1993 of AIDS-related conditions.
