The straw is usually held in place by heavy paper or burlap under the shade frames and stakes which are put in place when the mulch is removed. Men in the rear preparing beds which are sown to produce about 7000 2-0 white pines, or 5000 red, scotch or pitch pine. Small tree over the center man is Pinus pungens, others practically all shortleaf. Losses in European are so heavy from grubs and natural thinning they average only 2500
