Description
Venice in snow, Venice, 1970. "Venice in the snow, or simply the Ocean Front Painting, was executed in the summer of 1970. The scene depicted is located about 1/2 mile north of the painting and is identical to the view one would see standing at that location on the Venice Boardwalk. However, there is no snow on the ground. It has never snowed in Venice. The work was commissioned by a local art patron whose only words were, 'I'd like you guys to paint a picture in the Venice area. Here's some money to do it.' Unfortunately, 'Venice in snow' became a 'victim of construction' only two years after it was created -- a tacky four unit apartment house built six inches away on the adjoining lot totally obscures the mural."
