Photograph was edited for publication purposes Photograph article dated March 9, 1961 partially reads, "Every Saturday morning, members of air Explorer Squadron 3, Boy Scouts of America, take to the air over Pacoima on practice flights to train them to be future pilots. The squadron, the only unit of its kind in the area, is sponsored by North Hollywood Optimist Club. Chartered in 1951 with two members and a borrowed plane, the group has grown to 22 active members...The group's flight base is Whiteman Airport in Pacoima." Pictured flying solo is Mike McIntyre, 16.
