Description
Caption: Mission Santa Clara de Asis, established in 1777, by the Spanish Padres, as the eighth of the chain of twenty-one Missions along the Pacific Coast, was burned in 1926, reconstructed immediately. The Mission is on the grounds of the University of Santa Clara, which was founded in 1851...the oldest institution of 'higher' education in California. Postmarked San Jose, August 5, 1947, to Charley Luckhardt, 1315 Shasta Avenue, San Jose (original address at Camp Curry, Yosemite has been crossed out). Message: San Jose, Calif. Aug 4, 1947. Dear Charley. I hope that you are having a good time. It has been warm here for the last few days. Love from Mrs. Reid.
