Description
Architects Theodore Augustus Eisen and Sumner P. Hunt originally designed the estate for Oliver Posey in 1899-1900, but Mr. Doheny bought it in 1901. Located at 8 Chester Place in the West Adams district, it includes 22 rooms and the first privately owned elevator in Los Angeles. Following Mrs. Doheny's death in 1958 the residence passed to the Catholic Church, and in 1962 became the Doheny campus of Mount St. Mary's College.
Partial view of the expansive estate of Edward L. and Carrie Estelle Doheny, covered in ivy and surrounded by various types of palm trees.
