Description
Dr. Albert Abraham Michelson, the first American to receive the Nobel Prize in sciences, in a laboratory, ca.1930. Dr. Michelson is standing at left and facing to the right. He is wearing a dark suit and a light shirt. He is an old man with unkempt hair. He is grabbing onto a wooden platform in front of him. On the platform are several ring stands and clamps. A large section of pipe can be seen behind him. The walls of the room are made of corrugated metal. Originally, the photograph was captioned as "Portrait of William Mulholland in a laboratory with equipment used in the construction of the Los Angeles Aqueduct, ca.1950".
