Exterior front view of Ascension Catholic Church located on the corner of 112th Street and Figueroa, in Los Angeles. The church is painted white with a red tiled roof; red-bricked rectory and convent structures are on either side. Above the main entrance is a beautifully carved depiction of the Ascension of Jesus with thin stained glass windows on either side; a small simple cross rests on the roof above. A portion of the enormous bell tower is visible to the right of the church. The general understanding of the Christian doctrine of Ascension holds that Jesus bodily ascended to heaven by His own power in presence of His apostles the fortieth day after His Resurrection. Photo dated: December 24, 2004.
