Description
Part 1 was recorded in Palo Alto, California, on February 2, 1965, with questions by Leonard Fuller. McCarty describes the early experiments in wireless telegraph in San Francisco/Oakland by his brother Francis McCarty, the circumstances of his brother's death in Oakland, his wireless experiments in Palo Alto in 1908 while the McCarty laboratory was set up at Stanford University, and Cyril Elwell's involvement in the McCarty Wireless of Arizona company. Part 2 is the second part of an interview of Haraden Pratt, recorded on September 6, 1966 by Jane Morgan. Pratt discusses the history of the Federal Telegraph Company in the 1920s and his role in the company as Acting Chief Engineer; this includes details of the failed contract with China for an internal communications system, the new system of Pacific Coast radiotelegraph stations, acquisition of Kolster Radio Corporation, creation of the International Telephone and Telegraph Company (ITT), patent licensing with Lee de Forest, work with Mackay Radio, move from Palo Alto to New Jersey under ITT and post-War history.
