Photograph caption dated July 5, 1965 reads, "Winging their way from Gillespie Field, El Cajon, en route to Chattanooga, Tenn., are Valley Powder Puffers Mrs. Bettye Jean Fry, pilot, and Mrs. Janet T. Hardin, co-pilot. The ladies, aloft in a Monarch-Mooney-sponsored aircraft are two days from their destination as they compete with 75 other planes - all manned by women in the 2,500-mile 1965 Powder Puff Derby."
