Tinted lantern slide of pilgrims at the entrance arch of a temple or holy site. Women sit with baskets in the foreground on the pathway, whilst other individuals stand and sit under the arch. Some people under the arch seem to be sitting with goods to sell. Two barrows stand before either side of the arch. The slide was developed by the Photo Department, Tientsin Hui Wen Academy, Tientsin, China. This slide comes from a collection held by the Church of Scotland and generated by the medical missionary Charles Somerville, who worked for the London Missionary Society in Hankou from 1904 to 1914.
