Description
A boy places his arm around the other boy 's neck as he eats. The two boys had just finished shining an officer's shoes, and used the money they earned to buy tacos. The 80's were considered the "lost decade" because of Mexico's debt crisis. This was due to the falling oil prices that left Mexico without foreign currency to pay off its $80 billion debt. This in effect, increased high levels of unemployement. In 1981, 52.5 percent of households in Mexico were considered poor.
