He was assigned to Kongmoon in 1920 and in 1930 he became the Society Superior of the mission. He was a delegate to the first General Chapter of the Society in 1929. In 1932 he was named to the Synodal Commission in Peking. In 1937 he became Procurator General in Rome. He was active in teaching until his death. -- Born in Massachusetts, Fr. Connors was ordained to the priesthood in 1927 and was then assigned to Kongmoon, South China. After language study he was sent to assist in the Kochow Mission. While working there he visited the leprosarium at Sheklung. He was immediately attracted to the work which he was later to devote his life. He taught English at the Kochow Sacred Heart School and then assisted at Yeungkong. In 1933 he was assigned to the apostolate for lepers, a large colony of whom led a precarious existence in a cemetery outside Sunwui. He spent eleven years in China, five of them with victims of Hansen's disease. -- Rev. McDermott was born in Worcester, MA. He entered Maryknoll in 1920 and was ordained in 1927. He was assigned to Kongmoon, South China that year, where he remained until 1937, whereupon he returned to the U.S. -- Born in New York, Fr. Kiernan came to Maryknoll in 1921 and was ordained to the priesthood in 1924. In 1927 he was assigned to Maryknoll's new mission in Wuchow, South China. He served as rector of Pingnam mission for two years. While in Wuchow mission he built a church that won international attention for its fine architectural style and was written up in the pages of Liturgical Arts Magazine. He served as group superior of Maryknollers in Wuchow and taught for two years in the Minor Seminary in Kongmoon. He also served the Society in the capacity of Treasurer General.
