A couple in foreground admire scene" -- Examiner clipping attched to verso, dated "December 25, 1953". "Tide Is Running to the Democrats, by Carl Greenberg, Examiner Political Editor. Signs are that the tides are running in favor of the Democrats in California where they hold a 3-2 registration lead over the Republicans. And as California goes in 1958, so may it in 1960. The center of the stage in 1958 will be held by the campaigners for Governor and United States Senator. The big spotlight will swing onto William F. Knowland, the Republican Party¿s leader in the U.S. Senate, who decided to call it a day in that august body when his present term ends, and run instead for Governor of California" -- Examiner clipping attached to verso, dated, "December 29, 1957".
