Bird's-eye-view of Los Angeles from Third Street and Hill Street. Some buildings in this view are: the Methodist Church; Congregation B'nai B'rith Synagogue (at center) on the east side of Fort Street (now Broadway), between Second and Third streets; the Cathedral of St. Vibiana (at right in background) located on Main Street, just south of Second Street.
Title transcribed from item. Date determined by years of activity of photographer. "Checklist of Western photographers" by Carl Mautz lists Henry T. Payne as doing business in Los Angeles from 1874-1890. "141. Part of Los Angeles from 3rd. St. hill." printed on item. "Semi-tropical California scenery H.T Payne & Co. Los Angeles" is printed on item.
