Used in the Exhibit: Play by Play - A Century of L.A. Sports Photography, 1889-1989
Two of the world's fastest humans, Charlie Paddock (center) and Frank Wykoff (far right), dueling in the 100 meters at the Coliseum. Both runners were tutored at USC by Dean Cromwell, the school's legendary track and field coach who was known as the "Maker of Champions." Known for his flying finishes, Paddock was the 100-meter champ at the 1920 Olympics. A Glendale High grad, Wykoff won three Olympic gold medals as part of winning relay teams. Photo dated: August 28, 1931.
