Description
The famous sculpture, Pem-yuwala, carved of gneiss in relief, is known as the "Isurumuniya lovers.” It depicts a princely figure with a sword hilt and a young woman. It has been suggested that the figures may represent King Dutugemunu's son, Saliya, and his low-caste mistress, Asokamala, sitting on his leg. The style of the sculpture is similar to the Indian Gupta-style. 0.930 x 0.630 meters.
