Manuscript by Charles Handy on management education in adults, using the London-Sloan Fellowship Programme as a case model. The paper describes the programme design and strategy as seen by the Director of Studies of the programme, and the effects of the programme are largely based on his subjective interpretation, supported by the written and verbal comments of participants and faculty. In the end, the study shows that those who benefitted the most from the programme were more naturally pro-active and more self-directing in their overall approach to life, as opposed to those who maintain a more deep-seated, dependent orientation to life's problems. Of these two types, the former coincides with those types of people best suited to management positions.
