1989-1147. In PHOTOGRAPH ALBUM: **F869 S12 H46 1938, v. [#A], pg. [#26] In: [Scenes of Sacramento] [manuscript] / Eugene Walter Hepting. [Sacramento, Calif. : E. Hepting, 1938?], Vol. A, leaf 26. Frontal view of a 2 story fire station; on its right is a tall narrow tower which rises above the 2 stories and is wood clad; the station itself is brick; on street level is a large arched opening with number 6 at its keystone; 3 firemen stand on the left and 2 firemen sit on the right of the opening; the front of a vehicle can be seen through the arch; above arch is written on ledge "Young America"; 2nd story shows a tall arched window and two very narrow windows topped by a round segmented arch upheld by corbels; on top of fire house is a tall open lantern. Walter Hepting was born in Sacramento (father was from Switzerland, mother from Germany). Worked for the State Treasurer's Office. Was amateur historian, collected old photographs and images of Sacramento. "Organized, June 21, 1855... Cornerstone laid, January 1st, 1858. Building torn down in 1935, bell-tower removed and now located at Sutter's Fort... Firemen in the picture are: E. Gibson; C. Winters; Lee Brockman; Jim Cook; C. Wonderly..."
