Brothers Frank and William Prince migrated to Pasadena from Tennessee in 1886 and were one of the first African-American families to establish residency in the city. William, along with Joseph Homes, who in 1883 became the first African-American resident in unincorporated Pasadena, were among the group who in 1887 founded First African Methodist Episcopal Church, the first African-American church established in Pasadena.
