Description
Chauncy Montgomery lived in Mill Valley while operating a gift shop in Muir Woods in the 1940s. This was probably a celebration for the 1939 The Golden Gate International Exposition on Treasure Island. The original Carnegie Mill Valley Library at 52 Lovell Ave. is in the background. Photo taken on Madrona Avenue, and the steps leading up past the old library lead up to Bayview Ave. Note on back: "Chauncy Montgomery lived in Mill Valley while operating a shop etc in Muir Woods Nat'l Monument - Ca. This costume etc - worn to take part in a celebration in Mill Valley." Another note included dates the photo as 1937-1939: "Western wear was THE THING for Fiesta Days to celebrate opening of the Golden Gate Bridge and Treasure Island Fair."
