Description
Dome of San Pedro Claver's church in the city of Cartagena. The church was built between 1580 and 1654 in a Baroque style, but the dome was replaced in 1921 and rebuilt by a French architect, Gastón Lelarge. Colombian anthropologist Nina S. De Friedemann had been studying the Afro-Colombian community of San Basilio de Palenque, a town located 60 km from Cartagena and considered the first free-slave community of the Americas, for the Colombian Institute of Anthropology. Richard Cross joined her to do work as a visual anthropologist in June 1975. This image illustrates Cross's anthropological categories: Architecture.
