Montie Montana was born Owen Harlan Mickel in 1910. He was a trick rider who was a regular on the rodeo circuit in the United States and Canada and appeared in a number of John Wayne movies including "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence." He made more than 60 appearances in the annual Tournament of Roses Parade and is remembered for roping President Dwight D. Eisenhower as part of a gag during the president's inaugural parade in 1953. He was married to his first wife Louise from 1933-1969 and died in 1998 at age 87.
