Description
Plates in: Guide to the Calaveras Big Trees / by George F. Haas, plate [27]. Meadow bordered by trees. "The forest front, from the Meadow. June 10, 1934" -- handwritten on verso. Stamped "Bear Photo Services, June 16 1934." 2011-1588. George F. Haas was born in Westport, Mendocino County. In 1933, hitchhiked to Calaveras Big Trees State Park where was employed. By 1934 became head park ranger, serving until 1935. While working here, compiled history from original settlers to region into book, Guide to the Calaveras Big Trees.
