Photograph also used in articles dated March 15, 1956; April 4, 1956; April 5, 1956; May 10, 1959 and several more undated articles. The man sought in several sexual attacks was identified as Edward S. Wein, a 32-year-old painting contractor, by seven housewife victims. Wein was arrested at a Long Beach cocktail party after a woman said she recognized him. He, in turn, denied he was the man who answered newspaper ads offering rooms for rent or articles for sale and then forcing the victims into their bedrooms to commit the crimes. Photograph caption dated April 4, 1956 reads, "Police artist's drawing above shows suspect sought for murders of Mrs. Barbara Jean Jepsen of Van Nuys and Mrs. Oleta Johnson of Costa Mesa. Mrs. Lettie Bothman, 57, identified picture as resembling man who attacked her at her Alhambra home. A Sherman Oaks woman, attacked early in March, provided detectives with description from which sketch was made."
