Description
In the wake of the October 17, 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake, Caltrans commissioned an oral history project to document the personal and professional experiences of Caltrans employees who worked to restore the State's damaged transportation system. After the Loma Prieta Earthquake Caltrans asked for volunteers from outside the San Francisco Bay Area for assistance. This recording is of Caltrans District 7 Special Crews in the City of Commerce, CA. This is the list of the individual interviewees: -Ron Thresh, Maintenance Superintendent -Edward Jellinek, Caltrans Equipment Operator -Alex McKenzie, Lead Worker Commerce Sign Crew -Juan Castenada, Caltrans Equipment Operator -John Jetten, Maintenance Supervisor, Special Crews This sign crew brought up materials and hung aluminum sheeting on existing signs for the detours for the San Francisco-Oakland Bay bridge which was closed for repair.
