Description
Shows C.F. Holder with horse and pack of greyhounds. Valley Hunt Hounds one of several packs of greyhounds (run by masters of the hounds) used to hunt jack rabbits by local hunters.
2012-1287.
Born in Massachusetts in 1851 to Quakers, Dr. Joseph Bassett and Emily A. (Gove) Holder, married Sarah Elizabeth Ufford. Was author and naturalist writing on history, natural history, biography, sports (especially big-game fishing), Southern California. Active in fishery conservation. Came to Pasadena in 1885. Was founder and director of Tournament of Roses, helped organize the Pasadena Academy of Sciences, founder of the Tuna Club of Avalon. Died in 1915.
