Description
Original photo. Photo mounted on board. Photo of the bridge from the incline to the ore bins. Three men standing on the bridge, one holding the bridle of a mule pulling a train of five wooden boxes, or bins. On back of board: "Bridge on tramway from incline to ore shutes [sic] - Hacienda, New Almaden, Calif. Early 1880's. Mrs. Geo. Bulmore." Stamped in ink: "Bulmore & Carson, New Almaden, Cal." Photo was taken from folder with note: "These were taken out of original frames by H.K. On back was :'To Laurence Bulmore from Harriet Anne Bulmore 1962.'" Duplicate photo. Photo mounted on board, pierced through left and right edges of board. On front, typewritten label in lower right corner: "Bridge from incline to ore bins. Bulmore Collection." On back: handwritten in pencil: "Almaden creek." Handwritten in ink: "Bridge over Hacienda Creek. Tramway from incline to ore chutes. Hacienda, New Almaden, Calif., 1887. From Miss Eda Fiedler, daughter of Hacienda Supt. of 1870's." Stamped in ink: "Laurence E. Bulmore 1831 San Pedro Berkeley, California." Handwritten in pencil: "Fielder." In 1864 a tramway system was installed on the slope of the hill that descended from the mine area to the furnaces below. The descending full ore cars pulled to the top the empty ore cars. At the bottom of the incline, mules were used to pull the full ore bins the remainder of the way to the furnace yard (Lanyon & Bulmore, 20).
