Description
Photograph of a detail from a panorama showing Union soldiers attacking Confederate earthworks, 1861-1865. Though this view is labeled as the "Battle of Gettysburg," it appears to be a fragment representing fighting around Atlanta, Georgia. Two sides meet and war with each other atop the pockmarked ground. Clad in a mix of uniforms and plain clothes, the men fight, some with fists and others with weaponry. A soldier leaps over a wooden wall boundary at right, and others stand behind another of these structures at center. A man stands beside two large barrels at left, with gun in hand. The battle extends into the distance, before a line of foliage.
