1989-1164. In: [Scenes of Sacramento] [manuscript] / Eugene Walter Hepting. [Sacramento, Calif. : E. Hepting, 1938?], Vol. B, leaf 16. In lower right foreground is a man on a horse; behind him a distance are two mounted horsemen; behind these two are a group of police men (?) and behind these mounted horsemen; on right side buildings are decorated with bunting for this Admission Day Parade; wires that cross street carry banners and flags; on left side of photo the crowd assembles in a row going up the street; the scene recedes into the distance Walter Hepting was born in Sacramento (father was from Switzerland, mother from Germany). Worked for the State Treasurer's Office. Was amateur historian, collected old photographs and images of Sacramento. "Jay Street, Looking West, between 7th & 8th street.... 'Jack Skelton', Marshall of the parade, in the foreground, on black horse." Reproduction of 1905 original image.
