Exterior view of the Carnegie Free Public Library in San Bernardino. Designed by architects Burnham & Bliesner in the Classical Revival style, Andrew Carnegie supplied the initial grant for a building of 20,000 in 1902. A few years later, in 1920, on the condition that the city match the contribution, the Carnegie Corporation provided an additional $7,600 for an addition, and the city passed a $10,000 bond issue. This library building served the public from 1904-1957 and was demolished in 1958, after it was found undsafe. A new library building opened in 1960.
