Photograph caption dated January 1, 1951 reads, "Cpl. Robert Stewart Gray, 21-year-old Marine wounded in Korea, sits in the grand marshal's car in which Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower would have ridden if he hadn't received European assignment. Ike suggested a GI replace him, and Gray, invalided home, 18 days ago, was picked to ride in marshal's car." The event that Cpl. Gray participated in was the 62 annual Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, Calif.
