Photograph of Mission San Juan Capistrano bell tower, ca.1886. Ruined stone church and campanario (4 bells). To right, adobe walls from attempt to rebuild in 1862 at which time the four standing but unsafe domes were blown down with gunpowder leaving much of the stone debris in foreground. Square stone buttress erected in 1800 to strengthen partly completed stone church.
