Description
Longshoremen are pictured here loading cargo from a rolling pallet onto a ship anchored by the dock. The Port of Los Angeles is located in San Pedro and is also known as the Los Angeles Harbor. It's been called the "First Port of the Pacific"; the port complex occupies 7,500 acres of land and water along 43 miles of waterfront and features 26 cargo terminals. Officially founded on December 9, 1907, it has 270 available berths. Port of L.A. is the busiest port in the United States by container volume, the 8th busiest container port in the world, and the 5th busiest international port when combined with the neighboring Port of Long Beach.
